Community Outreach/Events

Nevada City Fire Department participates in several community events throughout the year. Below are highlights from a few of these.

Deer Creek School Carnival

Every year, members of the Nevada City Fire Department spend an afternoon at the Deer Creek School during their annual Carnival fundraiser. While at the Carnival NCFD Firefighters teach the "Stop, Drop and Roll" procedure, along with other skills, to 3rd - 6th graders. After a successful demonstration of "Stop, Drop and Roll", students get to practice using a real fire hose. Firefighters also hand out fire prevention literature to students and their parents.

Nevada City Fire Department enters several apparatus in this parade, including: the original hand-drawn hose cart; an authentic 1800s horse-drawn hose wagon; NCFD's oldest Engine (Engine 5463); Engine 5474; Engine 5486.
